Hot Chocolate Cake Cookie Mix in a Mason jar
Prep time: 15 minutes
A fun, festive cookie mix built around a boxed Devil's Food cake mix, mini chocolate chips, and mini marshmallows: a great gift to assemble with kids, and the jar gets a second life once the cookies are gone.
Ingredients (for the jar):
- 1/2 cup mini semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup mini marshmallows
- 1 box Devil's Food cake mix
*To add when baking: 2 eggs, 1/3 cup oil
How to layer it:
- Pour the cake mix into a clean Mason jar, packing gently.
- Add the mini chocolate chips in an even layer on top.
- Bag the mini marshmallows in a small zip-top bag, pressing out excess air, and tuck the bag inside the jar.
- Seal with a reCAP FLIP lid.
- Attach a gift tag with baking instructions.
Baking instructions for the tag:
- Preheat to 350°F.
- Empty the cake mix into a bowl.
- Add 2 eggs and 1/3 cup oil.
- Stir until blended.
- Mix in the chocolate chips.
- Scoop into small balls on a parchment-lined sheet.
- Top each with three mini marshmallows pressed in gently
- Bake 8 to 9 minutes.
Storage tip: Keep cookies in an airtight container, separating layers with wax paper, best enjoyed within a few days.
