DIY Newspaper Planting Pot

Skip the plastic seed-starter trays, you can fold your own biodegradable planting pot out of a single sheet of newspaper. When it's time to transplant, the whole pot goes straight into the ground and breaks down naturally.

How to fold it (10 steps):

1. Cut a full sheet of newspaper in half from bottom to top, giving you one rectangular page.
2. Fold it in half top to bottom into a square.
3. Fold it in half again left to right, just to crease it then unfold.
4. Fold the bottom corners up to meet the center crease, so the paper has a point facing you.
5. Fold the front flap down to meet those corners, then fold it down once more toward you.
6. Flip the paper over and fold the left and right sides in to meet the middle.
7. Fold the top edge down to the middle crease twice, then unfold the last fold and tuck the top into the pouch beneath the triangle's peak, it'll look like a little hat.
8. Fold the bottom point to the side to make a roughly one-inch crease (don't fold all the way through).
9. Open the paper up into a little box shape: the last crease lets the bottom fold under so it can stand up.
10. Fill with soil and your plant, then water it in.

Water it in: Use a reCAP Sprayer on a Mason jar to gently mist your new seedling without disturbing the soil.

Once your plant's ready for the garden, dig a hole and plant the whole pot, the newspaper biodegrades right in the ground.
