Gaskets - Missing, Not fitting, Falling out, Leaking, Cleaning
Share
We frequently receive questions on gaskets. This post is here to answer them all!
If your lid is leaking, it is most likely related to the gasket being out of place or needing replaced.
Problem: The cap was missing the gasket, which caused it to leak.
Problem: The silicone gasket doesn't lay flat, and has a bulge that won't go away.
Solution: The gasket has been stretched.
The proper way to insert the gasket is to press down on 4 sides (like an x or +). Then press in between. Do NOT slide your finger around, that will cause the silicone to expand like a rubber band and will create a larger gasket that will bubble. Then screw the lid on slowly so the gasket will seat in the channel without stretching.
Problem: Gaskets do not seat properly and keep falling out.
The gasket may be worn out. The gaskets can become worn if the cap is getting regular use and especially if used with oil or soap. It's a good idea to have some back up gaskets for easy changing out. Some people replace their gaskets every 6 months.
If the gasket is new, follow the instructions below.
