Homemade Dog Treats with Peanut Butter & Bacon
Yield: about 30 large treats
Soft-baked, flavorful, and made with ingredients you can trust: pumpkin, peanut butter, and a bacon glaze make these treats an easy way to spoil your pup. Recipe inspired by Pinch of Yum.
Ingredients:
- 3/4 cup peanut butter
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 cup oil
- 2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 2 tbsp melted bacon grease
- 1 cup pumpkin
How to make it:
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Combine the pumpkin, 1/2 cup peanut butter, eggs, and oil in a bowl.
- Add the baking soda and flour, stirring until a stiff dough forms.
- Knead lightly until the flour is fully incorporated.
- Roll out the dough and cut into dog bone shapes (or small circles).
- Bake 15 minutes.
Bacon glaze: Whisk the melted bacon grease with the remaining 1/4 cup peanut butter until smooth, drizzle over the baked treats, and let harden before serving.
Tips: Use natural peanut butter without xylitol (toxic to dogs), cut smaller treats for smaller dogs, and let treats cool completely before serving.
Storage: A Mason jar with a reCAP FLIP lid makes it easy to shake a few out during training or walks. Treats keep about 1 week at room temperature or 2 weeks refrigerated.
