Mason Jar BBQ Sauce: The Only Recipe Dad Needs This Grilling Season
Share
There are two kinds of people in this world: those who grab BBQ sauce off the shelf, and those who make their own. Once you try this recipe, you will be firmly in the second camp. And honestly, so will everyone at your next cookout.
The best part is that you make it right in a Mason jar, store it in the same jar, and pour it straight from a reCAP POUR Lid. No messy spoons. No sticky bottles. Just a clean, controlled pour right onto whatever is coming off the grill.
What You Need
Ingredients:
-1 cup ketchup
-2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
-2 tablespoons brown sugar
-1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
-1 tablespoon yellow mustard
-1 teaspoon garlic powder
-1 teaspoon smoked paprika
-1/2 teaspoon onion powder
-1/2 teaspoon black pepper
-A pinch of cayenne if you like a little heat
What to grab from your kitchen:
-1 wide mouth Mason Jar (pint size works perfectly)
-A small saucepan
How to Make It
Step 1. Add all your ingredients to a small saucepan over medium heat. Give everything a good stir to combine.
Step 2. Bring it to a low simmer and cook for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring here and there, until the sauce thickens up and smells incredible.
Step 3. Pull it off the heat and let it cool for about 10 minutes, then pour it into your Mason Jar.
Step 4. Snap on the reCAP POUR Lid and pop it in the fridge. It will keep for up to 3 weeks.
Step 5. Pour it straight from the jar onto ribs, chicken, burgers or anything else coming off the grill. You will not go back to the bottle after this.
Make It Your Own
-Sweeter: Add an extra tablespoon of brown sugar or a drizzle of honey.
-Smokier: Stir in 1/2 teaspoon of liquid smoke.
-Spicier: Double the cayenne or add a splash of your favorite hot sauce.
-Turn it into a gift: Pour it into a Mason Jar, snap on a POUR Lid, and tie a ribbon around the neck. It is one of the most thoughtful Father's Day gifts you can give and it costs next to nothing to make.
Why a Mason Jar Just Makes Sense
Store-bought sauce comes in plastic bottles with tiny openings that clog and drip everywhere. This recipe lives in a wide mouth Mason Jar, so you can see exactly how much you have left, and the reCAP POUR Lid gives you a clean, drip-free pour every single time.
No waste. No mess. Just really good sauce.
