The Easiest Infused Water You Will Ever Make (And Why a Mason Jar Makes It Better)

Hot take: the best summer drink is not from a can, a plastic bottle, or a drive-through. It is the one you made yourself in a Mason Jar and it took about two minutes to put together.

Infused water sounds fancier than it is. You literally just add things to water and let them sit. The flavor comes on its own, the ingredients are things you already have in your kitchen, and the whole setup costs next to nothing. Once you get into the habit of keeping an infused water jar in your fridge, you will wonder how you ever went without it.

Why a Mason Jar Works So Well

You can make infused water in anything, but a wide mouth Mason jar is genuinely the best option. You can see exactly what is in it, it seals tight in the fridge, and with a reCAP POUR Lid you get a clean, controlled pour into a glass without any fruit or ice flying out. No straining required.

It also just looks really good on a counter or in a fridge, which makes you more likely to actually drink it.

How to Make It

Step 1. Fill a wide mouth Mason jar with cold water. A quart size jar is perfect for one day of drinking.

Step 2. Add your fruit, herbs, or citrus. Give everything a light muddle with a spoon if you want a stronger flavor, or just drop it in and let it do its thing.

Step 3. Snap on the reCAP POUR Lid and put it in the fridge for at least one hour. Overnight gives you a much stronger flavor if you are into that.

Step 4. Pour and enjoy. The POUR Lid keeps all the fruit and herbs right where they belong so you get a clean glass of water every time.

Our Favorite Summer Combinations

Cucumber and Mint
Refreshing, clean, and honestly the most spa-like thing you can put in your fridge. Slice half a cucumber and add a small handful of fresh mint leaves. Let it sit for two hours.

Strawberry and Basil
This one sounds unexpected but it is wonderful. Slice four or five strawberries and add three or four fresh basil leaves. The basil adds a subtle savory note that makes it feel a little more grown up.

Lemon and Ginger
Slice half a lemon and add a few thin slices of fresh ginger. Great for mornings and really good if you are feeling run down. Bright, a little spicy, and very refreshing.

Watermelon and Lime
Cut a cup of watermelon into small chunks and slice half a lime. This one is sweet and summery and perfect for a hot afternoon. Kids love it too.

Peach and Rosemary
Slice one ripe peach and add a single sprig of fresh rosemary. Let it sit overnight for best results. This is the one that will make people ask what you are drinking.

A Few Tips

-Use ripe fruit. The riper your fruit, the more flavor you get. Overripe fruit that you would not eat on its own works great for infused water.

-Refill once before swapping the fruit. Most fruit holds up for two rounds of water before the flavor gets too faint.

-Add a pinch of sea salt. It sounds strange but a tiny pinch of salt in your water actually helps with hydration and you will not taste it at all.

-Bring it on the go. The reCAP POUR Lid seals tight enough to toss in a bag without worrying about leaks.

That is really it. Two minutes of effort, a full day of really good water, and one less plastic bottle in the trash.
